2010 RENEWABLE ENERGY FAIR

You're invited to the 5th Annual Renewable Energy Fair hosted by Chena Hot Springs Resort on Sunday, August 15th from 10:00am to 6:00pm!

The Renewable Energy Fair will provide free workshops, seminars hosted by speakers on various topics, an art display of "Recyle Art" presented by the Fairbanks Arts Association, and science experiments for children of all ages. There will be a variety of renewable energy vendor booths and once again there will also be free food offered to all attendees.

This year we are also pleased to announce that Charles Baron, Google's Geothermal Program Leader, will be in attendance representing Google's philanthropic arm Google.org which has been leading the charge into renewable energy sources with its RE<C (Renewable Energy Cheaper Than Coal) Program.  The program works to develop electricity from renewable energy sources that could become cheaper than electricity developed from other sources such as coal.  In addition to this, Google.org has been working on accelerating the commercialization of plug-in vehicles through their Recharge IT project; a program that has been seeding innovation, demonstrating new technology, and striving to stimulate market demand.

In addition to Google’s representation by Charles Baron, Dr. Arun Majumdar Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA - E) will also be in attendance as a keynote speaker.  His distinguished research career includes the science and engineering of energy conversion, transport, and storage ranging from molecular and nanoscale level to large energy systems.  Moreover, in 2005 Majumdar was elected to be a member of the National Academy of Engineering for his pioneering work.

Our other noteworthy keynote speakers that will be in attendance at this year’s Renewable Energy Fair are Alaskan legislators Lisa Murkowski, Mark Begich, Ted Stevens, Don Young, Governor Sean Parnell, FNSB Mayor Luke Hopkins, Dr. Brian Hirsch from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and University of Alaska President Pat Gamble. We are also very happy to announce that the renowned modern day father of hydrogen, Roy McAlister, author of “H2Nation” and “The Philosopher Mechanic” will be back in attendance this year as well.

Every year we try to showcase innovative forms of renewable energy technology.  Last year the major project we were showcasing was our own Mobile ORC Power Plant.  As it is currently deployed in Utah, this year we will be showcasing two new special pieces of technology, one of which is a Fodder Unit.  The Fodder Unit is a hydroponic growing room that has been specifically developed to grow sprout grain and legging seeds for highly nutritious but cost effective livestock feed.  Amazingly, this unit can produce its yield with only six days in between seeding and feeding out.  The other new piece of technology we are excited to share with the public is our new gasifier.  (http://www.gekgasifier.com/)  We will also have a presentation on our newest large scale project being constructed just outside of Fairbanks, our biomass power plant.  When it is completed we will be using recycled cardboard and paper as well as other biomass materials to provide Fairbanks with a new clean source of energy.

In addition to these new innovative pieces of technology we will also be featuring electric vehicles, our water ram, our three pressure absorption chiller, our hydroponics greenhouse, our geothermal ORC power plant, as well as speakers from various fields relating to sustainability.

This is a free admittance, non-profit event open to the public. Feel free to bring your whole family and all your friends.

There will be one shuttle route this year that will pick up fair participants in Fairbanks, take them to the Renewable Energy Fair at Chena Hot Springs Resort, and bring them back to town at the end of the day. The schedule is as follows:
