2009 RENEWABLE ENERGY FAIR

UPDATE-The U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will be holding a public hearing at Chena Hot Springs Resort on Saturday August 22nd at 10 AM, during the Renewable Energy Fair.  More information will be posted on our website as is it becomes available.  Some additional information can be found on the Senate Committee's website. Yet one more reason why you won't want to miss this year's Renewable Energy Fair.

In 2006 Chena Hot Springs Resort celebrated the grand opening of the first geothermal power plant in the state of Alaska by organizing the inaugural Chena Renewable Energy Fair. The fair was a tremendous success and attracted VIP’s and homebuilders alike. There were 1,400 people in attendance.

The outpouring of community support encouraged us to make the Renewable Energy Fair an annual event. At the second fair, in 2007, we celebrated the ground breaking of our hydrogen production facility. In 2008, the focus of the fair was energy efficiency for homes and imagineering.

This year we are unveiling our revolutionary mobile organic rankine cycle geothermal power plant (mobile ORC for short) to the public. In addition to the mobile ORC, we will be showcasing new electric vehicles that could change the way we look at transportation here in Alaska. You will actually have the opportunity to drive one yourself!

For the children we will have a kid’s activities center chocked full of educational and fun science experiments (see schedule for details). We will have a face painter (Barry Whitehill) and a Lego robotics crash course (Tom Johnson). In addition to experiments we will also have a petting zoo where the children can feed various animals.

We will be demonstrating creative sustainability concepts and alternative energy solutions that specifically address environmental challenges which Alaskans face every year.

We will be offering complimentary transportation (see schedule below), food, and tours of our facilities to all participants. We will also be hosting a wide range of vendors and speakers from throughout Alaska and the country. This is a great opportunity to spend an educational and fun day with you family at Chena Hot Springs Resort!
