About This Tour

Ascend to the summit of Charlie Dome in a military-style SUSV (Small Unit Support Vehicle), where you can watch the sunset with 360 panoramic views. Experience Alaska from a secluded ridge top viewpoint, quiet, vast, and unreal.

Departure times vary due to time of sunset. Check with Activity Center Staff for daily departure time.

Important Note: We can't guarantee that the sunset will be seen, since weather conditions are unpredictable and can change quickly. Please bring warm clothes or ask for our parkas or winter boots.

Tour Timeline

Check-in one hour before sunset, departure is 45 minutes before sunset and return is 15 minutes after sunset
To get to and from the top of Charlie Dome you will be transported in a SUSV and it takes approximately 30 minutes to get there
The total tour time is 1.5 hours with transportation and sunset admiration

Please meet at the Activities Center and plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour start time to check in and get ready. Tour times shift with the sunset, so confirm the day's departure time with Activities Center staff.

Cancellations made at least 24 hours before your scheduled tour receive a full refund or credit. Refunds are also issued in the event of operator cancellation due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. No-shows and late arrivals may be charged in full.

This tour takes place in open winter conditions, so warm layered clothing is strongly recommended. Guests should wear insulated winter jackets, snow pants, gloves, and face coverings. Heated yurts are available to warm up in.

Complimentary parkas, snow pants, and boots are available if needed.

Plan for about 1.5 hours total. The ride to Charlie Dome is roughly 20 minutes each way, with time at the summit to take in the views before heading back

Sunsets are weather dependent and cannot be guaranteed, but the tour always delivers panoramic summit views, dramatic light, and an unforgettable mountain atmosphere even when clouds roll in.
