Ice fishing at Chena Hot Springs offers a true Alaskan winter experience on a frozen sub-arctic lake. After a short drive from the resort, guides drill through nearly three feet of ice, provide hands-on instruction, and set you up inside heated shelters to fish in comfort.

Hot beverages and round-trip transportation are included, making this three-hour tour accessible for beginners and seasoned anglers alike. Operating from November 1st, with small group sizes, it is an authentic way to experience Alaska's winter wilderness.

How It Works

Meet at the Activity Center before your scheduled tour time
Short drive to the lake with your guide
Watch the guide drill through three feet of ice to access the water below
Your guide covers technique, equipment, and what to expect
Fish from inside the heated shelter for the duration of the session
If you catch something, your guide will cook it on-site for you to eat
Good to know: Booking must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Tours require a minimum of 2 guests to operate and cannot be confirmed until the guide agrees to it. This tour runs from November 1st through the end of winter season.
Ice conditions: All fishing locations are selected by your guide based on ice thickness and safety. Do not walk onto the ice independently or outside of designated areas.

On the Ice

Stay within the area designated by your guide at all times
Do not wander onto unfamiliar ice without guide approval
Children must be supervised by an adult at all times
Follow guide instructions when handling fishing equipment and catch

Cold Weather

Dress in warm, insulated layers including boots rated for cold temperatures
A heated shelter is available throughout your session
If you feel excessively cold or experience numbness, return to the shelter and notify your guide

If you haven't signed your waiver, please check in 30 minutes before your tour at the Activities Center. If your waiver is completed online, check in 15 minutes before your tour at the Activities Center.

Cancellations made at least 24 hours before your scheduled tour receive a full refund or credit. Refunds are also issued in the event of operator cancellation due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. No-shows and late arrivals may be charged in full.

The experience lasts approximately three hours, including transportation from the resort, instruction, and time spent fishing on the lake.

Dress for the weather. Warm gloves and a hat are recommended, especially during colder months.

Catching fish is never guaranteed, as conditions can vary day to day. However, if you do catch a fish, your guide can prepare and cook it for you on-site so you can enjoy it fresh during the experience.

No. Ice fishing is a relaxed activity. Guests should be comfortable standing or sitting outdoors in cold weather, but no strenuous activity is required.
